Principal’s Message

Welcome to Hampton Street School!

At Hampton Street, we see our school as a garden gate—the place where your child’s learning journey begins. It is here that curiosity takes root, a love for learning grows, and every child is nurtured to become their very best self.

A woman with long, dark hair smiles in a professional headshot. We are proud of our value system called Mini-Mustangs, which helps our young learners build essential life skills. From developing executive function abilities like working memory and problem-solving, to practicing kindness and teamwork through social-emotional learning, our students grow not just as learners, but as caring, capable people.

Most importantly, our school is a family. Every child is valued, included, supported, and celebrated for who they are. Together, we focus on the whole child—mind, heart, and body—so that learning is joyful and visible every day. This is at the heart of the Mineola mission, and it’s the work that inspires us daily.

Here’s to a year filled with curiosity, growth, and the joy of learning. We are excited to be in partnership with you!

Sincerely,

Amaris Melendez

More Information

  • Dear Hampton Street Families,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the final days of summer! My name is Amaris Melendez, and I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Hampton Street School. It is a privilege to join such a vibrant and welcoming school community, and I am eagerly looking forward to the start of the new school year.

As we prepare for the return of our students, I want to let you know that class placement letters will be mailed out this week, and you can expect them to arrive at your homes in the next few days. We know how exciting this time of year is for families and children, and we hope receiving your child’s placement helps build that excitement even more.

Inside the building, our teachers and staff are hard at work preparing classrooms, organizing materials, and ensuring that our learning spaces are safe, welcoming, and ready for a fantastic year ahead. We are committed to making the transition back to school a smooth and joyful one for all students.

As your new principal, I look forward to getting to know each of you, working closely together, and building strong partnerships that support every child’s growth and success. Together, we will make this school year one filled with learning, discovery, and connection.

Thank you for your warm welcome into the Hampton Street School community. I can’t wait to meet our students and families in the weeks ahead!
