High-Fives, Hugs and Heartfelt Tributes Highlight Annual Senior Walk

On June 1, Mineola High School Class of 2026 took a nostalgic journey through their past during the annual Senior Walk. The event brings graduating seniors back to the hallways of their former schools to inspire younger learners and celebrate their upcoming graduation. The high school seniors traveled across the district, visiting Mineola Middle School, Jackson Avenue, Hampton Street and Meadow Drive. At each stop, they were greeted with applause, congratulatory signs and waves of high-fives and hugs throughout the hallways from former teachers and younger students alike.
While enthusiasm ran high at every stop, the energy at Meadow Drive was particularly moving. The district’s youngest pre-K learners proudly displayed a colorful, hand-crafted banner celebrating the Class of 2026, cheering loudly as the seniors paraded by. Nearby, kindergartners paid a special tribute to Josie and Emily, two graduating seniors who served as their student teachers over the past school year, presenting their mentors with custom tokens of appreciation to thank them for their leadership and guidance in the classroom.
The Senior Walk serves as a powerful reminder of the tight-knit community within Mineola schools, offering a symbolic passing of the torch that motivates elementary and middle school students to strive for their own future graduation day. For the seniors, sharing these high-fives and emotional embraces provided a moment of reflection on their growth from young children in the district to young adults ready to take on the world.
